Every year we attend various events at both Stirling University and Forth Valley College toPicture representing our stall with posters, leaflets and information on table. Alongside is our pop up banner with our details and how to register to vote. promote and raise awareness of Electoral Registration. This includes:-

  • Checking if you are registered
  • Help and advice getting registered
  • Providing information if you don’t want vote in person, eg get a postal or proxy vote
  • Help understand the new requirements of Voter ID for certain elections
  • Any other questions around Electoral Registration

  • Yes, as a student you can register at both home and your student accommodation.

    Easiest way to get registered is to go online to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

  • You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

    All you need is your personal details, including your National Insurance Number.

  • Depending on the election you may need to bring ID to be able to cast your vote. There are many forms of acceptable ID, full details are on our Voter ID page.

  • If you are a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth Citizen you can vote in all UK elections.

    If you are a qualifying Foreign National Citizen, then you can only vote in Scottish based elections, for example the Scottish Parliament Elections and Scottish Local Government Elections.

  • Not necessarily, the majority of electors do vote in person at their designated polling station.

    However if you are away or working, or just don’t want to go to the polling station, then there are some absent voting options that may be available.

    All electors are able to put in place a postal vote. This is where you vote by post, the ballot paper will be sent to you in advance of any poll. You have to apply for this.

    You may also be able to appoint a proxy, this is where you have someone you trust to vote on your behalf at the polling station. (Your proxy can also apply to use your vote by post).

    Everyone can apply for a one-off proxy for a specific election, but there a restrictions on who is eligible for a permanent proxy vote.
