The next Scottish Parliament Election
is scheduled for Thursday 7 May 2026.

KEY DEADLINES FOR THIS ELECTION
- Apply to register to vote – midnight on Monday 20 April 2026 – DEADLINE PASSED
- Apply to vote by post – 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026 – DEADLINE PASSED
- Apply to vote by proxy – 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026 – DEADLINE PASSED
Every citizen in Scotland who is registered by the deadline above, and are over 16 years of age, regardless of nationality is eligible to vote in this election.
HOW CAN I REGISTER?
Although too late for this election, you can register for future elections online at anytime by going to gov.uk/register-to-vote
If you are unable to register online you can download an application at gov.uk/government/collections/register-to-vote-paper-forms

I LIVE ABROAD – CAN I VOTE?
Overseas electors are NOT eligible to vote in Scottish or Local elections but can vote in UK Parliamentary elections.
WILL I NEED PHOTO ID?
You will not be required to show photo ID to vote in a Scottish Parliament election.
HOW CAN I VOTE IF I AM AWAY ON ELECTION DAY?
The deadlines to apply for postal or proxy voting has now passed for this election.
You may be eligible for an emergency proxy if you meet the criteria.
You can apply up to 5pm on the day of the poll (DEADLINE PASSED). Select the correct form from the list below based on the reason for needing an emergency proxy.

Both you and your proxy must be registered and eligible to vote in the Scottish Parliament Election.
